Wolfenstein: Youngblood – Fortwährende Dienstleistung (Jimpressions)

Wolfenstein: Youngblood has some charm to it, but it starts to feel repetitive after a while. This can be traced to its positioning as yet another “live service” in a market saturated by them.

While there’s fun to be had in Nazi blasting, the microtransactions are in place and the busywork is there, topped off with bullet sponge enemies.

It’s a shame, because the protagonists are fantastic and there’s some satisfaction to be had under the “live service” guff.

  1. A Wolfenstein game flops.

    Bethesda #SurprisedPikachuface

  2. Live service.

You know, I don’t really like that phrase. It’s a rather silly one, and not in a quaint way.

  3. Lol ? ”Lebend Dienstleistung = Live service then. Gutes Deutsch Herr Sterling ??

  4. I played a bit of it. In single player the AI is braindread and doesn’t follow commands. Even in Co-op there’s lots of issues. Floating health bars, enemy levels that change depending on which area you’re in even on the same map, open world, bullet sponge enemies….it’s just not a great experience.

  5. i am scared for doom eternal .

  6. I’m so happy Dishonored concluded before Bethesda became the shitshow it is today.

  7. Microtransactions have always been a red flag for me since Dead Space 3.

  8. Doom live service! What? You think Bethesda isn’t thinking about that?

  9. Wolfenstein: The “OW I’ve been shot! Come pick me off the floor again.”

  10. I used to praise Bethesda a lot for being one of the very few AAA publishers out there that only had microtransactions in their multiplayer games that get plenty of free updates over many years, and that they kept microtransactions out of single player and co-op games.
I’m really sad that, with Rage 2 and Wolfenstein Youngblood out, I can no longer say that.

  11. God damnit – there really is no chance Star Field isn’t going to be a live service dumpster fire huh?

  12. “time savers” again
I’m gonna save the maximum amount of time by passing on this entirely lol

  13. A run-and-gun classic adapted into a slow, bullet-sponge shooter. This gameplay is the latest edition of their series reboot? Looks boring as sin.

I can’t belive Bethesda is basically EA

If you told me that 10 years ago I would not belive you, sad

  15. greeeeeeat.
The Nazis now have levels and a health bar.
The only thing missing is flying numbers when you hit them to completely pull you out of the experience.

  16. Well Wolfenstein, it’s been a good run, but it looks like I gotta bury you, too. Follow me behind the shed, that’s a good boy.
