The Surge 2 – A Surge Of Brilliance (Jimpressions)

The Surge 2 represents Deck 13’s strongest crack at a Soulslike yet, and it’s really damn good. They nailed it this time.

Fast, aggressive, challenging, and wildly entertaining, not even some shockingly bad texture glitches can hold back the sheer amount of fun I’ve had dismembering my way through Jericho City.

The Surge 2 is, simply put, a brilliantly good time.

  1. its the dark souls of surge games

  2. Focus Home Interactive
has been killing it with the games they have published this year. Plague Tale: Innocence, Greedfall and now Surge. Big shout out to the devs under the Focus roof (Spiders, Asobo Studio and Deck13) 😛

  3. I need to see the amount of claims stacking onto the channel with all these musical intros

  4. Funny, how Jim’s intros have become something I’m looking forward to.

  5. When you give a developer enough time and experience to truly hone their craft, the fruits of their struggles will eventually surface. The Surge 2 and its excellence was well earned and hard fought. And that’s why we need to support devs when they show potential, like the makers of Greedfall. I mean, after all, even FROM Software didn’t start out making masterpieces.

  6. Anyone sending YOU a review copy has to have some confidence in his work. And if you approve of it, that’s just a cherry on the cake!

  7. As a big Dark Souls fan I’m glad this game hit Jim the same way it hit me.
I couldn’t really get into the first game, but when I booted this up last night I blinked and 5 hours were gone.

Deck 13 is really living up to (and in some ways surpassing) the “Souls-like” formula, and I couldn’t be happier.

  8. Giving Jim Sterling a review copy is probably one of the biggest show of confidence in a game a publisher could do

  9. A game listened to feedback and made improvements that didn’t involve adding loot boxes? unheard of!!!

  10. I hope these Mid tier games really do well. They’re a really great alternative to the bulllshit AAA

  11. 8:07 – WACKIN’ WACKIN’ WACKIN’

I think we all do that from time to time 🙂

  12. Love me some 1986 Transformers The Movie music.

  13. 5:20 you totally tripped on some tree roots and PANICKED because they moved, thinking it was an emerging enemy.

  14. *stares at video*
    *checks resolution*
*stares again confused for about ten minutes*
Jim: “the textures have been well and truly buggered up”

  15. you know the game’s good when Jim uses the transformers soundtrack

  16. Abbreviated Reviews

Just press the old ‘dismemberment button’.

  17. Would you say we are seeing a “surge” of high quality games from Focus Home Interactive as of late?

    I’ll see myself out.
