Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – I Don’t Like Sekiro And That’s Okay! (Jimpressions)

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is surrounded by buzz, and with good reason. It’s a From Software instant classic, a game of stealth, brutal combat, and punishing difficulty.

I also don’t like it.

  1. The way you describe your feelings towards Sekiro, is basically me and Dark Souls. I really want to enjoy those games but I don’t.

Sekiro however is exactly what I do enjoy.

  2. Fair enough . But I think this game gets really better the more you play .

  3. I’m glad you’re honest about this. I hate dark souls, but I love this game, because its fast, it has stealth, it has lethal execution. In other souls type of games, the dodging, the blocking and attacking are very slow paced that when I execute, it felt like the game is intentionally restricting my movement with its tiny charge time and cooldown time between executions that I could’ve sworn that if it was me in real life, I could’ve landed those executions.
yes I know it’s all about timing, but so is parrying. I guess I just like fast pace. That’s all I’m saying.

This is the second souls game that I like. The other one is nioh. But this is my favorite. No doubt about it.

  4. I love Sekiro but I understand where you are coming from. The only thing I think you are mistaken about is the one hit grabs. I can’t think of any enemy or boss that could legitimately one hit me. Sure if I wasn’t at almost full they could, or maybe a full combo could hit me (before I gigured out a way to avoid the next hit, which there always was in my experience), but never a true 100-0 one hit. Then again I did make an effort to do side content and painfully explore everywhere, so maybe I just had enough prayer beads to tank through them. Good video either way. I’m glad you haven’t called for an easy mode like some other journalists

  5. Bloodborne taught people how to perfect dodging – I think Sekiro will do the same with parrying.

  6. Some people love dark souls and hate Bloodborne, or vise versa.
Parrying makes sense for the aesthetic of Sekiro, feudal Japan is much different from medieval Europe.

  7. Honestly the gameplay is exactly my style. So for me, I like Sekiro even more than Dark Souls and Bloodbourne and I love those games

  8. Glad you put this feeling into words. I love the souls games and monster hunter i dont mind having to get good. But I just didn’t enjoy sekiro, i was thinking maybe after i get good i will have fun… But i think you’re right if you dont enjoy getting good, whats the point.

  9. The fact that you had to spend almost the entire video repeating that you don’t LIKE the game while thinking it’s a GOOD game speaks highly of the state of the Internet as of the latests years

  10. I feel similar. I hate the combat/ posture system and prefer Dark Souls. Will still try to finish it tho

  11. Generic Gmail Account

    Jim with an objective review.

Just because you like a game, doesn’t make it good and just because you dislike a game, doesn’t make it bad.

    Cheers.

  12. Hey Jim. Just wanted to say I absolutely adore you. Love from Australia!

  13. Philosophy's Pajamas

I love the atmosphere of the game. It’s my favorite souls like game right next to bloodborne. People seem divided on the game but at least we can all agree its polished and made well lol.

  14. I love Dark Souls and Sekiro, but not Bloodborne. *shrug*

  15. I beat the game and i think it was completely worth it. Mastering deflecting was completely worth the trials and tribulations

  16. I couldn’t get into the Souls games, but I really dig this. It really does come down to personal taste.

  17. This game definitely doesn’t reward slow, methodical thinking.
If you’re not aggressive (especially on mini bosses and bosses), you’re not going to have a good time.

  18. I feel your pain, Jim. I wanted a new soulsborne hole filler too, and this game, while good in many aspects, just doesn’t do it for me. Next time maybe? ?
