Red Dead Redemption 2 – Red Dead Realism (Jimpressions)

Close Ad ×

As a game, Red Dead Redemption 2 is inspired and brilliant, as the product of a 60+ hour work week should be at bare minimum. As an overly detailed cowboy simulator, not so much.

Fortunately, Red Dead is big enough for everybody, no matter their tastes or levels of patience.

  1. Red dead rumpus : electric boogaloo

  2. 0:05 It’s Skyrim’s followers all over again.

  3. The Jimquisition is going to have a field day with horse testies

  4. The sign of a great reviewer is when they tell you a detail about the game that they don’t care for, and absolutely sell it to people who would love it!

    Thanks Jim, you’re awesome!

  5. It’s a gud game…
    …BUT WHERE’S MIDNIGHT CLUB, R*!?

  6. 15:36 How dare you undermine the importance of horse balls in this game. I’ve lost a lot of respect for you here, Jim.

  7. A lot of these problems sound exactly like all my issues with R* games. They just don’t know when to put player fun ahead of their own obsessive design. They have a story to tell and god dammit you’re going to play it their way.
Been listening to older Dad & Sons podcasts and one of them talks about how the Houser brothers have absolute authority over the design. They write the story and then it’s up to the developers to develop a game around that story. And they have absolute authority over how things progress. I’ve felt since GTAIV their games are just so fiddly and hard to control and littered with pointless frippery. Lots of things to do only for their own sake. Big highly detailed worlds that nevertheless feel empty. Interesting areas used as a single story set piece and then discarded forever. Non-story activities that are ultimately unrewarding. Collectables that give you nothing.

I’m just completely tired of the R* formula now.

  8. You were the only one i trusted to not do spoilers. Great vid. Cheers.

  9. So Red Dead Redemption can be played as both a high-thrills cowboy game but also as a slow gaming Old West simulator.

  10. I should say, regarding item loss from lost horses in the game, I was talking specifically about hunting. If you do permanently lose your horse, you can at least retrieve the saddle for regular inventory items.

  11. realism isn’t the same as immersive.

  12. Sneaking up on a turtle. That is also in the realm of super-realism.

  13. I fear for my OG ps4. The old dear barely made it through God of War.

  14. Looks good. I’ll be buying a used copy in a few weeks, just so Strauss Zelnick doesn’t get any of my money.

  15. But when’s GUN 2 coming out?

  16. Well.. And now we wait for the PC version.

  17. Japanese games may have boob physics but American games now have horse balls physics

  18. “A Rockstar working week..” hahahaha good one 😉

  19. Animation-heavy, cumbersome, and pedantic… so you’re saying it’s a Rage Engine game from Rockstar. I think half the reason they’re reluctant to port these games to PC is because they know how much more unpleasant this shit becomes with a mouse and keyboard. How down W, wait for your avatar to get up, turn around, slowly build up momentum, and five minutes later you’ve successfully crossed the street.

  20. It’s so realistic it was made under 19th century working conditions.
