As far as Steam Direct games go, Mutation Phase isn’t all that bad. At least when compared to most desperate zombie asset flips. This one has headshots, tutorials, a sense of progression… it’s like they thought about it for more than five minutes.
At least… until the unwinnable situation.

The gameplay videos were always my favorite on this channel. I always wondered why they stopped. Surely it can’t be because playing barely functional messes dredged out by people who are likely to harass and generally make a nuisance of themselves would be bad for one’s mental stability.
I really miss the “hello you ..(random insult)”. It’s a rarity these days and i savor every one

Oh my, a functional game. Would you look at that. The head bob is bloody annoying of course. The floating blood is weird.
Well… okay, a sliver of competence is accurate. Still miles ahead of some of the trash on Steam.
I might have called it early. That enemy doesn’t seem to be a fair type of difficulty. Not a good sign.
I miss Jim covering shit Steam Direct/ Greenlight (R.I.P.) games and asset flips. Those were the days.
Watching these Steam Direct videos has really shown me that I’ve learned a lot about user interface design. The generic horror font, the bad text size and composition, having dark red text on a black background? These are all dead giveaways that the rest of the game will be poorly designed.
Love that we’re seeing more DTV’s. The old school Jimpressions were one of my favorite things on youtube, and I’m happy to see more of that kind of content.

A prime example of how a dimmer light seems brighter the darker your surroundings become… What has happened to this god damn industry? When things get so bad that we can applaud the most bare minimum of effort? When TRYING TO MAKE A GAME becomes something worthy of praise in the feckin industry that’s supposed to be doing that on the regular
This developer actually tried. The game still looks bad, but I definitely give it marks for putting in some honest effort.
