Konami Shuts Down New Castlevania Game Before It Could Even Launch Properly

In just under a year, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls has closed its doors, not even getting its planned global release. Soft launched in Japan and Canada, the free-to-play Castlevania game had promise, but it was a total misfire.

Despite classic gameplay and an authentic art style, fans were prepared to shelve their misgivings about its mobile nature. Konami, however, tried to push a multiplayer mode nobody wanted with microtransactions nobody bought.

Sounds about right for Konami, where everything game-related seems to be a Producers-style scheme.

  1. Probably trying to turn it into a pachinko machine.

  2. *I had forgotten what it felt like to hit the lever*

  3. Sorry Castlevania is now just a Netflix anime based off of a cartridge game

  4. can konami just downgrade to be a pachinko company and give its IPs to people that actually care for games?

  5. THEY CAN’T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT

  6. Đào Khôi Nguyên Đặng

I petition for a second currency exclusive for dealing with predatory companies replacing the Presidents faces with middle-fingers but keeping the same value as ordinary Dollar. Then see how those companies react to the “It’s just cosmetic” excuse(they still have the same value)
P/S: I volunteer to have my middle fingerprint immortalize on the $1 bill & Jim’s on the $100

  7. urgh. i dont get it at this point-
wont the Yakuza’s get pissed (and finger-join choppy) with Konami’s board if they throw their money into a hole instead of laundering it? >.<

  8. From what I played it actually wasnt bad either. Story and lore-wise it was a continuation of the original canon which also made me happy and the writing for the characters was good since it knew them well despite how little is given in the other games. Makes me sad

  9. As a huge fan of this sereies i never knew this existed, wtf they could have at least brought it to the U.S. for a bit

  10. I’m sure most people will just say “oh it was only a mobile game so it doesn’t matter”, yet I can’t help but see this as yet another example of Konami’s failure to do ANYTHING right as a video game developer and publisher.

  11. The only good Castlevania thing in the last decade (unless you count Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night) has been the Netflix show, to the point where it shows up *before* the games in a Google search for “Castlevania.”

  12. I didn’t even know there was a Castlevania mobile game available in Canada.

  13. Konami a kid who lets you play with his toys then tells you you’re playing it wrong and snatches it back.

  14. This game could’ve been so successful if it had launched for PC, Switch etc as a digital game for indie game price. Just imagine that.

But yet again, this is Konami we’re talking about.

  15. The great irony is that Curse of the Moon 2 just came out today. Konami continues to flounder while Igarashi and Bloodstained seem to be carving out a niche for themselves.

  16. supercharged euthanasia division

Fun fact: in my language, you can split Konami into two words, “kona” and “mi”, which forms a sentence roughly translating to “Dying on me”. I realized that ages go, but it became relevant only today. Sadly.

  17. Jim, I have to ask, who made your hat? I’m trying to make a “Jimquisitor” 40k cosplay, and the hat has been the hardest thing to try and make myself.
