Darksiders Genesis – Looks Like Diablo, Plays Like Not-Diablo

Darksiders Genesis is a strange one. While it may look like a Diablo style affair, it remains a Darksiders game at heart, with combat and mechanics taken straight from the main series.

The new perspective is jarring however, especially when it comes to jumping and platforming. The lack of dungeon crawler RPG features also makes the pulled back camera feel just a tad cheap. Nonetheless, it’s a decent enough game.

  1. As always a beautifully constructed intro.

  2. ThereAreNo AvailableNames

    Darksiders art style is amazing.

  3. Apologies for the reupload. I uploaded a screwed up edit that would have seen the whole video go out of sync towards the end. The correct edit is now up.

  4. Early, but not early enough for the original upload.

  5. Ten seconds in and I am LOVING this intro

  6. “You smell like if the texture of beef jerky could fart.”
That has nothing to do with anything, its just a funny thing I heard.

  7. Hi. I love the darksiders series. That’s all. This was an excellent game. Had a wonderful time, wasn’t expecting to given the twist in genre. It seemed like a “We’ve run out of budget, have a mobile game.” but no, this was really quite wonderful and enjoyable.

  8. I’ve been playing this game off and on since mid-last year on Steam… and I was fairly confused when you mentioned the “Echo” in the Void, because I don’t remember any Echo.

Then you presented the scene which uses the same “Echo”… and No, that’s not how that scene sounds on the PC port.

Also, yes, very good intro Jim.

  9. The echo is very strange, I played it on PC when it came out and had none of that, the audio was just normal.

  10. I was on the fence about getting this one. Loved Darksiders 1 and 2, haven’t played 3. I did assume this was going to be like Diablo. the isometric style really does make it hard not to make that assumption. But I just may give it a look.

  11. I wasn’t wild about Darksiders 3 either, but I recommend giving it another shot. The game gor a lot more fun after they added the classic mode.

  12. “There’s no shame in turning back.”

    “No point either..”

  13. Part of me thinks this looks cool. But part of me is sad that Strife hasn’t gotten his own big-budget release like the other Horsemen.

  14. Alejandro López Presa

    “it’s not
exactly mechanically rewarding to just press a button over and over again”
that describes my entire Diablo III playthrough…

  15. Sad to hear you didn’t like DSIII Jim, I quite liked it and had a lot of fun with it.

  16. Played through the entire game and never had that echo effect. Sounds more like a feedback loop/delay from the main audio output. you can hear the original reverb in the background but the “echo” is clearly not intended to be there.
    p.s. darksiders3 was fine

  17. “This is my jam!”
-Strife, one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse as he finds the blackberry jam he misplaced 1:01

  18. I actually liked Darksiders 3! And I didn’t buy it at first because of your review, but then it came out for free on PS Plus. After rewatching your video on it, I feel like we had two completely different experiences with the game ^^

  19. “better than darksiders 3”, immediately sold on this game now
