A Post Mortem Of An Ex-IGN Plagiarist’s Shameless Career (The Jimquisition)

A now former IGN editor was caught plagiarizing a review of Dead Cells and got canned for it. That’s where the story should have ended.

Instead, Filip Miucin couldn’t help making it worse for himself, and encouraged the world to uncover an entire career built off the stolen work of other people. What a tit.

  1. I’m just hearing about this.. F#*k this Broomstick guy for stealing other peoples work.

I still get confused comments like this and have had to ban certain words from my channel…

  2. The thing I don’t understand, maybe this is just the way “contributor” authors/editors work in the new media. The second they hired him they pretty much let him write and submit reviews independently without oversight or review.

Jeez! I usually get micro managed hell for the first 3 months until I pass probation whenever I start a new job.

It amazes me how anyone close to him missed it, that their co-workers didn’t notice his actual day to day work didn’t reflect his plagiarised writing style, their had to be warning signs professionally… but then again his own co-worker didn’t realise he swiped their thoughts for his Octopath review.

  3. Ster Dust is so gloriously homosexual, it’s kind of amazing. Like that He-Man music video, only even better.

  4. I plagiarized this comment

  5. Why are people congratulating IGN throughout this entire Miucin fiasco? To me it seems IGN is just trying to wipe everything away before anyone goes ‘wait, did IGN not do their homework?
Can anyone just walk in and start writing for these guys?’Like, if this guy has been so prolific in plagiarizing everything from resumes to content then this should have been picked up before he even got his first paycheck.Hell, was anyone even reviewed his work before, or when, it went up?This is just as much as IGN’s fault at not vetting their employees as it is Miucin’s morals or lack there of.Although the slight bright side to this is that his crimes have been brought to light.

  6. I wasn’t genuinely ticked off with him until he posted that disgusting apology video in which he denied the obvious and even threw accusations at someone he’d stolen from…

I was willing to assume something was going on in his life and he just stole a review due to some time constraint (especially as it was such an obvious, seemingly unpracticed theft) which would warrant firing and such but not necessarily mean he’s a terrible guy, but after that video it was clear this man is an asshole.

I suppose sociopaths just can’t help themselves.

  7. Jim. You’re constantly saying his name incorrectly. It’s pronounced “confirmed plagiarist Filip Miucin”.

  8. Some of the most damning evidence of Miucin’s plagiarism was from Engadget’s review of Samus Returns, who accidentally said that you aim with the R-Button. It’s actually the L-Button.

    *Filip copied the mistake*

  9. You do NOT poke the internet with a stick! They will unsheathe there weaponized autism and point it directly at you.

  10. I must confess that I actually did this all the time in school as a kid – plagiarising stuff. My only defense is that I’m autistic and tend to interpret instructions really, really literally, and when the teachers told me that it was more or less okay to copy articles as long as you “rewrote it in your own words” I understood that as “copy-paste the whole thing and edit the wording to mach what I would personally use.” It wasn’t until I was in grade six or seven that I finally realised that this wasn’t how you were supposed to do things – and only after being confronted by my Social Sciences teacher about this behaviour _twice._ It’s been many years since and I still feel surges of shame and sickened mortification whenever I remember it. Needless to say, I haven’t done this shit since.
I wonder if his case is similar and he just never had anyone actually tell him what he’s actually doing until now.
That being said, I’m in no way defending him. I’m just saying that he might be as oblivious as an autistic fifth-grader in addition to being an absolute bastard of a pisshole.

  11. Deadcells will have benefited in sales from this whole thing, so at least theres an upside. Same with Boomstick

  12. 4:26 so quick blink and you’ll miss it! Calling him an alleged writer is bloody genius Jim, this is why I love you XD

  13. RIP his career. While it’s not rare for journalists to essentially release similar piece but with words changed here and there, that’s generally because they are quoting a press conference or covering an event.

  14. I hate plagiarism. Now, Thank god for me…. D’OH! …. dammit.

  15. I don’t understand this guy at all. Why become a games reviewer if you don’t want to play games or talk about games? It would be like becoming a chef so you could buy prepackaged food from another place and pass it off as your own. Why?

  16. Does anyone else find miucins voiceover so cringey too? He sounds like he’s trying so hard

  17. He knew he was fucked when the other stories about him were primed to come out. The fact he challenged the internet to do so has to be some weird Freudian admittance of guilt

For just this one time, he could’ve made a sob story about deadlines and give transparency and promised to book his ideas up. But he knew his house of cards was about crumble. Why on earth he came out and “apologised” (in a way that wasn’t apologising for his actions, nor was it admitting anything) is beyond me.

  18. Coach Toolshed Gaming

Gotta love it when someone throws down the gauntlet to the internet to find more skeletons in the closet. What an unapologetic fool

  19. Retro Game Players

You gotta hold that R button hahaha

  20. In dead cells 2 there should be a mirror boss called pillif .
