A Hat In Time – Down With Minty Fresh (Jimpressions)

Yeah, it’s alright. It’s not Yooka-Laylee, and that’s better than being Yooka-Laylee.

    Damn Jim!

  3. I actually like A Hat in Time more than Mario Odyssey. Mario is more polished and longer for sure , but A Hat in Time has more personality and it’s funny. Also it has better bosses than Mario odyssey.

  4. No offense to the developers of the game, but the art style is ass.

  5. The Raddest Scorpion

I come here for the raw animalistic nature of Jim Fucking Sterling Son, and I always leave with a smile on my face.

  6. Been waiting for what you’d make of this game. Think I enjoy it way more than you do but I am for the meantime not able to afford odyssey or the switch.

I do have to disagree on you with the controls not being tight but I wouldve agreed with you within my first few hours of playing this as well. Its the kind of controls that by the end of the game you find yourself suprised by how skillfully you can manoeuvre about and reach new heights and platforms. I’d recommend anybody include Jim himself stick the game through to the end.

Also for a further two cents on the matter, the third world is arguably the best with the first world being the weakest.

  7. I’m so upset you played this game AFTER Super Mario Odyssey and it wasn’t released at a better time, I really appreciate the character and fun they tried to put into this game

  8. Keep that chungus minty fresh!

  9. Personally I liked the controls

  10. mohammed bluelighting

Smol child is pure must protect.

  11. I actually really liked the open worlds, Alpine Skyline specially. Sure, it’s not Mario Odyssey levels of open-ness (?) but they’re still plenty of fun to move around. I can’t wait for the new chapters they’ll add with the free DLC.

  12. Do a Jimpression on Doki Doki Literature Club!

  13. This game is *extremely* rough and unpolished but manages to make up the difference through sheer charm and creativity (imo, of course). Hopefully this does well enough that the devs can up their production game a bit

  14. This seemed very unorganised, rambly and unstructured. Jim just kind of repeated himself over and over for 8 and half minutes.

  15. I actually adore this game. Find the controls very solid, the humor is great and it’s just hecking cute.

  16. I really hate this idea that Mario Odyssey invalidates other collectathons. Like what planet do you live on where the top game on metacritic is the only valid interpretation of the genre? To compare YookaLaylee, AHatInTime, and Odyssey is to fundamentally misunderstand the difference between their source materials and their interpretations thereof.

A Hat in Time is infinitely more impressive considering the size of the team was so small. The fact that a studio with 10x the budget made a larger and more complete package shouldn’t surprise anyone with two brain cells to knock together.

  17. Did Jim get this game for PC or console?

  18. I impulse bought this game on release (didn’t know about it at all at the time) and I’d say it’s definitely a contender for GOTY for me. I’m not a Mario person, never have been and never will be (aside from Mario Kart). I have no intention of buying Odyssey, it’s just one of those games were I sit back and acknowledge that it’s a great game, while everyone else has literal sex with it. But it really saddens me that A Hat in Time came out only a month or 2 before Odyssey did. Bad timing on the devs half or not, I really would’ve loved it if this game got more attention that it has, because it’s just pure fun (ya know, give or take parts of it, like our lord Jim Sterling here).
