You Didn’t Finish The Game (The Jimquisition)

They came, they saw, they reviewed. In the wake of a deserved 7/10 for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, I look at the “fun” thoughts Zelda’s fans have shared with me.

Of particular note is the old “you didn’t finish the game” accusation. If only zealous fans realized what a horrible defense of a videogame that truly was.

  1. Is windwaker music in the latest zelda??? If so I’m gonna buy it…

  2. are your tits actually lactating? completely honest question.

  3. Oh, the sun is actually green. Google it! Fascinating!

  4. The only time I DNF a game I liked was Psychnauts, and that’s because I rented it from Blockbuster and just didn’t have the skill to beat that last encounter. Generally, I stop playing games because I’m not having fun, and “it gets good after the first 100 hours” isn’t a valid argument in my book.

  5. It’s good. Not amazing. The first game was amazing because it was new. I’m okay with putting this one down for a few days between sessions.

My mom was forced to eat liver with onions in her childhood. She hates it to this day. She didn’t force me to eat it, dad just let me try it and I quite like it, not to the point of making it myself, but I can eat it. Don’t be like my grandparents.

Stephanie, I’m really sorry about the way people reacted to the review. You don’t deserve any of this harassment.

Also I’m sorry you went through that liver and onions incident. I also endured trauma from being forced to eat foods I have aversions to. 🫂

I mean, I think is fundamental to finish the game to give a proper review. Your accusers most of them are assh@ls but it’s still fundamental to finish, specially a good game, to serve its review

It’s funny that all the people saying “You didn’t play enough of this game” about ToTK are largely the same people who were quiet about Elden Ring’s perfect scores. When those reviewers largely didn’t finish the game, and only a month later everyone turned around and spoke “Well… The second half of the game is pretty very bad.”

  10. The sad thing as that all these mental gymnastics to invalidate a review are completely unnecessary. “I really liked this game and Sterling thought it was just Ok. I guess we have different taste in video games and I won’t make purchase decisions based on her opinion anymore.” There you go. So easy. That’s how grown ups get on with their lives.

I have like 40 hours and just now i completed my miner set, so yeah, Steph played a good while. More than enough to review an open world game.

You know, deep down, I get that sometimes, even something as trivial as a game review can stick in your craw and anger you on a personal level. Yatzhee review (and accompanying short essay) on Horizon Forbidden West did that for me.

But at some point, you need to grow up and learn that while natural and normal, such reactions are still irrational and need to be controlled. You can be angry at a review and not actually go on a crusade agaisnt the reviewer.

  13. As the rare lifelong Zelda fan who didn’t care for BotW, I will always be here for a good thrashing of unreasonable Zelda fans.

  14. Exactly that happened to me in 2017. I didn’t like BOTW and forced myself to play it… but NO! I DIDN’T LIKE IT!

I wondered why?! Why did I forced myself to have fun?! Why didn’t that work! It’s Zelda… I LOVED ZELDA! WHAT HAPPENED?!

Easy: Nintendo changed the Zelda formula to one I don’t like… I don’t like the useless bad implemented survival mechanics (I don’t like survival mechanics)… I don’t like the huge empty open world (open worlds overwhelm me) and I don’t like how the story goes with the voices actors and all of that… I! DIDN’T! LIKE IT!

If you enjoy the new formula, great! Excelent! Enjoy the game and I’m super glad about you… but I won’t even try ToTK… Exactly that… That extra onion flavor from 2017… I haven’t get over it yet…

  15. It is a stupid way to defend a shitty game, but you as a reviewer are doing it as a job you are professionally obligated to finish games before publishing work that gets you paid.

That said, most reviewers break this rule, so I don’t even read scores or reviews. But your argument that you have no obligation to finish the game when you plan to tell people whether they should buy it in your professional opinion is flawed.

Of course you gave TotK a 7 to get attention so you could mock idiots, which I’m here for, but you don’t have the high road. Lol

  16. It’s literally just the same fame again. If you liked BOTW, then you’ll like this one, if not, then you probably won’t. The rabid insanity of the fire hard fans deeply concerns and frightens me.

  17. 7/10 is a good review though.. Genuinely I can’t name enough 10/10s to get off one hand, 8/10 off two, but I think the fact of reviews don’t even matter if you already HAVE the game and enjoy it at all, because at that point, the review isn’t even FOR you. madness.

  18. maybe yer step dad was right, more liver and onions and you wouldn’t be fat🤷

  19. First time I’m seeing that number and my thought is just
    “ok.”
Like, i really do love TOTK. heck, I’m playing it right now, but the score of 7/10 isn’t lighting a fire in my belly and a rage in my heart.

  20. bet ya they didnt finish other games they deem bad
