The Game Reviewer Who Hates Games (The Jimquisition)

Close Ad ×

While I’ve often joked about hating videogames, there are many who claim my feelings are all too sincere, and those claims have increased since I returned to writing game reviews. Of course, I love many games, but here’s the rub – the ones I love are the wrong videogames.

Inspired by an amusing interaction I had in the wake of my Dead Island 2 review, I got to thinking about what is really meant when a critic is accused of hating the very medium they criticize. It’s led to some interesting new perspectives on people who complain about game reviews.

cant help but imagine anyone lobbing this accusation of critics “hating games” must be a very dull person who doesnt think too deeply about the media they consume.
like, if a game can distract them from their problems a few hours a day without frustrating them or challenging their world veiw then its a 9, and if it does that while showing a bit of spectacle and character drama then its a 10.

  2. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Lost Odyssey was the better Final Fantasy 13. Sterling was right about that.

  3. To paraphrase something yatzee said about the final fantasy 13? (The first game with lightning and crew)
If i told you that putting your hand on a stove was crap for the first 20 hours but it got better after that, would you hold your hand there for 20 hours? Lol

One should not have to 100% a game to know its crap, and i wpuld point out ACG also said it was a pretty basic game that was fun enough or at least thats what i got from the review.

  4. one day there will be a video on this channel again that’s not a whining jimquisition

  5. Now i miss Patapon again, thanks Steph >:c

  6. that lolipop has been around as long as i’ve been subscribed to you please do not eat that

Stephanie I love your work but I pray that some day you will be professional enough to spend more time on your audience than you spend on your hecklers

    this episode was un-watchable

  8. Throwing out a positive comment to remind you and everyone that most comments are negative because typically only people who feel strongly one way or the other leave comments and most strong feelings on things are negative, statistically speaking.

    That said, good video Steph!

  9. Just find reviewers that share your tastes. Then you will know if a game will be good for you. Reviewers aren’t there to validate you they are supposed to be guides.

  10. Your review of Dead Island 2 sounds completely understandable if 6/10 could be seen as “above average” but due to gaming websites never using anything other a 7 for as long I can remember except for the REAL trash games like “Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing” or that Alone in the Dark Left 4 Dead clone, anything at or under a 7 is considered just… shit.

  11. If video games are so big, then why wont they fight me

  12. Lampost Samurai

I want people who fucking hate video games to tell me about video games. I don’t want people to tell me videogames are perfect and i must buy them all.

I’d rather be told that games are meh

  13. Those comments are so close to understanding what a review and criticism actually is

  14. Of all the bland looking games to post a rant under, it had to be dead island 2 XD

  15. So even if we like a game, we’re not allowed to point out anything we _didn’t_ like?

  16. Fandomentalists is a word that I need to start using immediately.
