Streets Of Rage 4 – Brawl I Ever Wanted (Jimpressions)

Streets of Rage 4 behaves as if the Nineties never ended, and I’m okay with that.

A beautiful (shut up, it’s gorgeous) art style compliments an unapologetic retro beat ’em up that feels like a direct mechanical continuation of the original series. It’s a vintage brawler and I love vintage brawlers so I’m happy.

Now do Golden Axe…

  6. Cascade Persona

Beat-em-ups have been good. River City Girls is also a great addition to the genre by Wayforward.

  7. Jim: they’ve got the stabby guys
Me: cue flashback montage of me being stabbed to death a billion times as a child and rage-crying

  8. its pretty crazy how games like this evolved into your god of wars and devil may crys…
like compare the original doom to the modern version. theres more gimicks but its still recognisable as the same genre.

  9. Streets of Rage 2 is one of those games that I left running in the background sometimes, because I liked the music so much.

  10. THIS GAME IS A EPITOME OF OLD SCHOOL NOSTALGIA PERFECTLY TRANSFORMED INTO A MODERN PIECE OF ART,EXCELLENT GAME….strong recommendation from an old school gamer

  14. When I was a kid I always felt Axel was saying “RENT A CAR!” when he does his blitz move…

…Still can’t think of it being anything else now tbh!

  15. Jim: “That’s a sign of a good game. A game that encourages me to inflict incremental physical damage to myself.”
Activision: “Our microtransactions also encourage players to inflict incremental damage on themselves.”

  16. you should try the indie beat em up “Fight N’ Rage” ! It’s an amazing retro experience with a great gameplay, it’s a shame not many people know it!
