Street Fighter V Displays In-Game Ads That Offer Players Currency And Costumes

Because no amount of money will ever be enough for game publishers, Capcom has begun shoveling in-game advertisments into Street Fighter V.

So-called “Sponsored Content” applies to loading screens, stages, and characters themselves. Your favorite SF character can become a walking billboard for you to enjoy.

You can turn them off, but will not earn bonus Fight Money and will lose access to the new costumes. Hooray for a new precedent in desperate monetization!

  1. Heard this story from the Laymen crew. But I knew Jim would tackle it. Couldn’t click on this fast enough.

  2. Capcom have been doing so good recently that I forgot they can be shitty too

  3. We’re getting closer and closer to living in the world of Blade Runner, but without all the flying cars and androids.

  4. Capcom really wants to piss away all the goodwill they got from Monster Hunter World. Then again if they treated MHW like Street Fighter 5 the fans would vaporize their headquarters.

  5. Street Fighter V, brought to you by totinos pizza rolls! Totinos Pizza Rolls, feed your hunger while feeding others your fist!

  6. “Sponsored content” are just ads with extra steps.

  7. “games are too expensive to make” they say

  8. I thought this was about a new street fighter
Because I actually forgot 5 even existed

  9. Capcom has been “funny business”. They either publish a decent game with no issue. Or they do this kinda crap, or ruin a game they touch.

  10. Video games and farming are the only industries where companies expect you to give money to buy giant piles of shit, but at least with farming, you can use it to grow food.

  11. What a good time to focus on retro gaming and emulators.

  12. It amazes me that Capcom can both ruin SFV by continuously being idiotic with its monetization while Monster Hunter World is its best selling game of all time and has none of it.

  13. Ganymede, Jupiter III

I can’t wait for the Hadouken and Shoryuken to be DLC.

  14. I can’t wait to see what kind of excuse the “it’s optional” camp will come up to.

PS: i bet you guys read the “it’s optional” with Jim’s squik winny Voice.

  15. And so it begins. This is why I havechated the rise of eSports. It’s only going to get worse people.

  16. Greed…Greed never changes.

  17. Congratulations, Capcom. You are truly, truly incentivising me….to not buy your games.

  18. Sad thing is the game industry has no reason to be desperate, it’s one of the biggest entertainment juggernauts.
