You actually have to be fucking shitting me right now. Is this real life? Is an official, real, not imaginary, Sonic The Hedgehog game appealing to the deviantart degenerate side of the fanbase?!
Well since no one else is seeing this, I’ll be the one to say it:
I like the fact that Sonic Team added this new feature into Forces because other than the fact that now all of us can rejoice in having our dreams of our fan-characters actually being in the Sonic game (among all of the other memes we are going to be seeing in here, Robbie Rotten and John Cena in Sonic forces anyone?), but this also creates so much new potential for how the overall gameplay will be. Tired of the speed and the boost-to-win? Here you can create a character with any ability to your liking and completely change how the game will be played. I think this is a fantastic idea, and it’s a great way to see this game grow. Good job, Sonic Team. Good job.

OMG people calm down. Sega is trying something new for us to enjoy since they know we love to have our own custom characters. Stop bitching about everything.
This is probably, from a business perspective, one of the best ideas they’ve had in over a decade. OCs are the bread and butter of the sonic fanbase. Encouraging their creation and expansion encourages the fanbase itself to exist. Besides, it’s not like the lore has any integrity to lose.
Sonic fans: I hate these annoying characters. I want MY character in.
