I understand that they’re trying to move us into this whole “you don’t own it, you just rent it” thing but I’m not playing that game. It’s discs or nothing, I’m not downloading sheeeeyat
Except that you probably do download a lot more than you think.
The thing is though even if you buy a physical copy there is so much of that games data that will still be digital only. Patches, DLC and so on. The games for 8th gen and beyond is not going to have the same resale value as older games since they will be effectively incomplete once the servers go down and you can no longer get your hand on what is very often vital patches.

You got me thinking when you mentioned storage. Since the digital edition is going to be very reliant on storage, what if it comes with a bigger storage capacity than the normal edition but they release at somewhat the same price. And you actually get to choose what you prefer, disc, or more storage
I’ll be getting disk even if I only play 1 in 10 disk games it will still be limiting to have no disk.
Everything installs to the ssd since PS5 games will require the ssd as far as data access goes, disc is too slow (was so with current gen). PS4 games can run off an external hdd/ssd to save internal space. The disc drive will just be for installing or for movies.
The disc version will have the same problem since the entire game is installed to the SSD. I don’t see why they even bother with discs anymore. Especially considering most games require an entire game worth of patches to be downloaded.
In 2013, when the ps4 launched, the flagship-state-of-the-art iPhone 5s shipped at a price of 649$. Fast forward to 2019, the iPhone 11 pro max launched at 1.099$. Nowdays all top tier phones cost more than 1.000$. Technological progress isn’t keeping up with the costs of the products. I’d say around 599$ for the ps5 is a good guess.

i like the disc option. there are times when retailers have incredible sales and online does not. for example, games like fifa and cod are always $99 aud online at launch but are $69 or $79 aud at target.
You will save more money long term with the disc drive option. Physical games go on sale WAY more often then digital versions and you can buy them used.

Im getting the one with disc drive because i want to play my ps4 discs on ps5, if its possible, but most likely it will be

@Iwill Hurtyoubuddy not sure about the ps5 but for the xsx, they have automatic, free game enhancements e.g. hdr and higher frames with for old games so that is definitely an incentive for me and a lot of other people to keep playing our old games on xsx

@MitchNM ya a solid 1080p instant load time pc is going to run you at LEAST 800$ esp if ur opting for ray tracing (2060 Super with 1tb nvme and 16 gigs ram 3200mhz is the standard and thats “low end/value” – and assuming ur building it urself and own a windows key)

@Iwill Hurtyoubuddy An i9 or AMD equivalent alone are almost as expensive as a brand new console. PC gaming is cool because of the huge Steam community and the variety of games, but those kids saying they can build a “tOp GaMiNg RiG” just end up spending a lot of money just to play Fortnite in 720p

I think its more power the no dic drive ps5 will have 2-4 tb of memory so it be $599.99 us & 699.99 2-4tb dic console the day and age are changing if its more tbs as memeory & power you are going yo pay the defences I think you think the ps5 the same as the ps4 pro so they might go all out on this ps5
