Online Games Clearly Need Offline Contingencies (The Jimquisition)

Helldivers 2, Sker Ritual, and (hilariously) Suicide Squad, have all been borderline (or totally) unplayable at crucial moments thanks to their online failings. The Outlast Trials could’ve stood to do better, too. It’s clear online-focused games are struggling to maintain themselves lately, and the fact they have NOTHING to offer players beyond their broken features is a real problem.

  1. Steph, so wrong about Helldivers 2. Server overload due to unexpected success = bad thing cause child can’t play now. This game should be celebrated not lambasted to make a good point but to back up a shockingly misjudged click bait review… I’m here but this might be too far…

  2. Who’s the band in the intro?

  3. @stellabourbon2122

Hey Steph, I regret to inform you that YouTube forced ads onto yet another of your vids

  4. Someone go please mod Bubsy into Elden Ring. Thank you.

  5. Today’s Cold Take is about the same topic, nice

  6. Is it possible for you to get onto Nebula by any chance? I think your content would be a good fit, while adding a lot of missing flair to the platform.

  7. Which is why I don’t bother with online games at all, save for digital simulators of physical card games.

  8. @krakheadlovesyou

My love for you just increased with the use of Cardiacs music… Thank you🥰

  9. I absolutely agree that not enough games contemplate “how can people play when things aren’t working right?” (or in the case of larger devs just don’t care).

The thing that gets me with online games is that design problems don’t impact all players equally. Helldivers 2 is a great example: matchmaking absolutely didn’t work right, but my worst experience was retrying for a couple of minutes to get a match and this in no way reflects everyone’s experience. That isn’t a lack of preparedness that’s an actual problem that they were eventually able to resolve, but how many people who don’t live in NA bailed on the game before they did?

Why the fuck is that scream on command thing even a thing worth gating off a deluxe edition for? It’s just chat spam.

Imagine if generic OW cheers had to be paid for. I wonder if the toxic part of the OW community would be so quick to defend it then

  11. @snigwithasword1284

Capitalism bad, as it turns out.

  12. Is the Helldiver II network issues in the room with us now?
Also wow now I see that article and so much cope it’s amazing the effort you went to trying to declare the game shit.
Wonder if it has something to do with the crowd who ended up really liking it because you don’t like it.

Agreed. I’m just so sick of multiplayer games that I do NOT even touch them and it’s been like this for years. Not only are MP games bad for game preservation – their gameplay solely depends on how much effort the devs have put in (nowdays – not that much) and how toxic the community is (often – very). I just stopped caring altogether about MP games.
If your game starts boasting as a live-service or multiplayer-first – I’m literally just striking it off my buy list right there and then.

Adverts before a Jimquisition? What in the YouTube fuckery is this?!

  15. I think the only game I’m looking forward to is Control 2, and that’s because Alan Wake 2 is one of my favorite games to date lol.

  16. @PunishmentDumplin

Make a pact with your buddies. Ignore the hype, Never pre-order, never order on launch day. Instead sit back and laugh at the suckers who did.

  17. I refuse to believe this is the guy from Dukey’s videos.

  18. @UltimatePerfection

Finally some good video on this channel. It’s what? 6 years since it happened last time?

  19. Criticism of HD2 hurts bc it’s a really fun game! But I also avoided buying it for the first month given all the reasons in this video 😂. Game still crashes every once in a while…
