Net Neutrality: ISPs Can Throttle And Block Content So Long As They Admit It

There’s so much bollocks going on in the world that one can easily forget all the things we have to worry about. Net Neutrality is one such thing, and it recently came up again thanks to the FTC debunking one of the FCC’s favorite claims.

The frauds at the FCC claimed net neutrality’s spirit would still be upheld by an FTC primed to police throttling, blocking, and discrimination of content by service providers. The FTC’s power was exaggerated.

It turns out ISPs can do a lot of what net neutrality guarded against, so long as they don’t lie about it. If they admit somewhere upfront that they’ll pull some crap, they can pull the crap.

Kind of takes some of the wind from the sails of Google Stadia and Apple Arcade.

I trust an American business to care for the people as much as I trust a shark not to eat me after I cut my finger and let it smell my blood.

  3. There is a bill in Congress trying to reinstate NN. Of course cable and mobile lobbies are attempting to destroy if not weaken it.

  4. Nonsense like this is why I’m skeptical about this streaming-only future we seem headed for. Network infrastructure in America isn’t going to improve if ISPs are able to continue to operate unchecked.

  5. Remember the time where Verizon knowingly throttled the Wifi and Connection speeds of California Fire Departments during the huge amount of fires? Remember when they had to pay Verizon a HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY in order to get their connection back to normal?

Remember when Verizon was partly responsible for hundreds of lost homes and lives?

Yes compare wifi to coupons at a grocery store, because those things correlate with each other very well, like healthcare and buying a used car.

  9. Heck, I think not long ago the FCC claimed that they’ll fix the issues of Robocalls, yet we know there have been more Robocalls then before and they continue to increase.

Are we taking to the streets yet? Because it’s sounding like it’s time to take to the streets.

  11. Another point: If I go to the grocery store it isn’t about my freedom in regards of receiving information. It’s making me bend down for the cheap house-brand, not throtteling for example my acess to facts and opinions that are not allinged with the ISP.

  15. It’s just like a supermarket.
You know, when Walmart builds itself around an existing Tescos so you can’t get to the Tescos, but there’s a sewer system underneath the Walmart that probably comes out at the Tescos

  16. “Business-friendly” always turns into “customer-hostile.”

  17. Why are old men with no grasp of the internet making decisions about the future of connectivity? Oh right, politics.

  18. Imagine Telephone companies deciding who you are allowed to talk to.

Internet is a damn utility these days. It should be treated as such and not this circus!
