Google Stadia Won’t And Can’t Assure Us Our Game Purchases Will Remain Ours

Google Stadia faces a lot of skepticism as it attempts to bring cloud gaming into our homes, and most of that skepticism is fair.

For one thing, it’s Google, and they’re not to be trusted. The company’s history of long-term support for its own products is far from encouraging. We also can’t trust the “AAA” publishers climbing aboard the gravy train, because they’re “AAA” publishers.

Stadia has also reinvigorated the conversation about game ownership, as many users are wondering what would happen to their Stadia purchases should the platform die off. Google’s attempted patronizing answers to such queries, and they fail to really address the concern.

The problem is, Google couldn’t really assure us even if it wanted to. No action plan for the security of our game libraries can be revealed without it also undermining the entire point of Stadia…

idk you’re selling permission to play something rather than a licensed unit of something. Like you’re not even selling the files, just permission to interact with a video of the game.
