Days Gone – That Other PlayStation Game (OMGH)

It’s not that Days Gone looks especially bad, it’s that it just looks like another open world game populated by yet more zombies. I hope it’s good, I hope I enjoy it, but right now it’s struggling to shake the designation of “Oh, and THAT other game.”

  1. Hey Jim, wanna play another zombie game?

  2. It’s taking years for this thing to come out.

  3. The protagonist might have the worst main character name ever.

  4. Days Gone, it is an interesting game to look forward to and considering its focus on single player…I am quite hyped. I’ll watch the trailer since I have seen some of most of the recent coverage of it; however, not the original trailer. Also probably should say this since I have watched a lot of your videos, Thank gawd for you Jim.

Update: Watched the original 2016 trailer and I must say I found it quite nice; however, the only thing I take umbrage at how long it has been since then. But, I do think that this wait will give the game a lot more polish and refinement. I am excited and I hope it is commercially successful since they did put a lot of effort into it.

  5. I am actualy quite excited about this game. The bike riding seems fun and those zombies like they are satisfying to kill. I just hope it’s open world game like HZD and not like AC with all that boring fetchy, climby and defendy stuff filling it.

  6. I have never seen a game like this before, amazing

  7. From the creator of Bubsy 3D

  8. You know what, if this game can do ridiculous zombie physics a-la just cause style i could see some fun there.

  9. Single player game + no micro transactions = I’ll pick it up.

  10. Another zombie game?

    **flashback to Metal Gear Survive**

  11. The problem with this game is that almost nothing about it stands out.

  12. 1:32 about 8 zombies all do the same shoulder jerk in unison and the illusion was lifted. These aren’t zombies. They’re putting on a music video.

  13. A zombie game!?! Jeezus what are these crazy devs gonna think of next.

  14. Jim criticized God of War initially because it made some audacious changes to what God of War was-and then gave it a Game of the Year award-so who knows Jim may give this a GOTY nod too despite all the skepticism.

  15. This is an accurate representation of current day Montana

  16. hey joe,wanna play a zombie game?

  17. While I’m not particularly hype for days gone either, I have to admit that it looks considerably different from the zombie games we have typically been given.

One thing that no zombie game has ever pulled off effectively was an actual horde.

Dead Rising doesn’t have hordes, they’re just a ton of zombies standing around everywhere you go, that’s a bit different.

There’s never been any real threat in most zombie games. And if you think about it, there aren’t really a ton of open world zombie games at all, and there are even less third person zombie games, there are even less that have any kind of depth to their story, or their gameplay.

I found Dead Island, dead rising, and Dying Light to be enjoyable, but they aren’t really the same thing as this.

*This actually feels like it’s taking the best aspects from Dying Light and Dead Rising, and combining it with the polish and strategy all of The Last of Us, with more active gameplay moments, and a more severe and immediate threat.*

I just find it weird how the first thing people say when they see zombie game is ” we’ve seen this before”.

But it’s like, have we really? Sure, we’ve been getting zombie games non-stop for 20 years, but I would say the first 10 years were filled with Resident Evil games, and Games inspired by Resident Evil.

The last 10 years has been filled with mostly really bad zombie games, that have laughably bad stories, 0 depth to their gameplay and mechanics, and terrible first person perspectives.

So while I don’t think that days gone is wholly original, I think that it’s doing enough stuff different, and it’s doing some things that I’ve never seen any game of its genre effectively pull off. So I’m interested to see how well they are able to execute.

But there is no denying that this game is going to suffer due to the fact that as a culture we seem to finally have moved past our obsession with zombies as a whole, not just in video games
