Bleeding Edge – Senua’s Smackrifice (Jimpressions)

It is a strange thing to see Ninja Theory – known for such games as Senua’s Sacrifice, DmC, and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West – put out a hero-based multiplayer game, especially since it feels about four years too late.

Weirdly though, it’s not really a bad videogame. It’s got several key problems, but the core has real potential… provided players don’t get turned off by the balancing issues and lack of content first.

  1. Hi Jim, how are you spending your quarintine? Are you washing your hands? How is Craig doing?

  2. I’ve played the game quite a bit already, including the betas and though I want to love the game it’s sadly apparent it’ll need quite some work to be finalised as a great product.

  3. For some reason the gameplay reminds me of the Shadowrun multiplayer game on xbox 360.

  4. @4:02 “It’s like a cartoony day of sex…” wait what? OH DEUS EX…. yes that makes more sense. Sorry I was still thinking about those chicken legs.

  5. Hello people in the future watching this after the game died

  6. I really want to be in to a multiplayer game again but I just can’t find myself caring about any of this stuff.

I hate how it always has to be either you’re running around like a headless chicken or it’s punishingly difficult and everyone is a sniper. There seems to be very few in between these days.

  7. Fingers crossed that its presence on gamepass will tide it over enough until its more refined

  8. 1:55 a *SNAKE… hopefully called Ekans? Or Arboc!?*

  9. Smile, Peco. Smile.

Witch granny is the only reason I was ever interested in this game and one day I will play it to live my dream of being a witch granny.

  10. I would have liked it better if it was more “fighting game like”. For now it’s just poor man’s For Honor mixed with overwatch.

  11. This game’s going to need work to differentiate itself from Overwatch. All I really see and hear in this review is that “it’s Overwatch but…” Some things are better (say what you will about Blizzard’s character design but they would never have an assassin lady with chicken legs) and some things are worse but this game is hopping onto a train that left 2 years ago. The people who like Overwatch aren’t going to play this game because they’re invested in Overwatch and the people who are sick of Overwatch likely aren’t going to want to play a game that’s so similar.
If it was free I’d maybe give it a try but as it is I don’t want to pay money for a game which seems for the most part like “Overwatch but…”

  12. I feel like Overwatch has really killed the hero genre for a while

  13. Honestly the only thing this game needs is a proper aiming system, I love it to bits but playing any character with range is difficult as it’s hard to hit the target you want to hit. Similar with melee characters as they have some sort lock on so hitting the right enemy at close range can also be difficult.

This is the reason why I’ve given up on most team based objective games, regardless of quality. I love the concept in theory, and it makes for some of the best online multiplayer experiences out there when both teams are actually competent. That said, you have to slog through so many frustrating one-sided streamrolls and selfish players to get the rare good match that it’s not worth spending my precious limited free time to do so. Yes, I am aware that teaming up with friends helps, but that assumes said friends like these kinds of games in the first place (mine don’t).

  15. This feels like one of those games, like Lawbreakers or Battleborn, that will be okay for a small period then quickly die off.

  16. I’d say this game is playing on Ninja Theory’s strength quite well, except the multiplayer map design and game mode. They’re quite adept at designing insteresting-looking characters and third-person gameplays. I don’t see the need for another hero shooter after Overwatch claim the reign and then stayed there, rotting away.

  17. “It’s not terrible”
    Because that’s an achivement…

  18. I really wish they could have come up with themed transports for the characters instead of just giving them all hoverboards. It really clashes with the designs of some of the characters.

  19. Game devs in general need to stop demanding people to play “as a team” and “play specific roles” just for A CHANCE of winning, because indeed it never worked in the past, is not working in the present, and will never work in the future either.
