I think you can swim in all seasons. Nintendo Have named it a summer update as its summer in their hemisphere. I presume the creatures you can get while diving changes with the months like fish/bugs

Unfortunately you probably have to wear the wet suit from Nooks Cranny and Nook Stop to go swimming.. it was seen in some Japanese screenshots of the update..

@Sebastian Link Both. Splatoon 1 stopped adding content a LONG time ago, and 2 stopped after the final splatfest, which is about in 2018 or 2019. There are game patches once in a while, but nothing that important. I personally don’t think it’s worth it for now.
