I want to like Biomutant. I really do. But I don’t. Because it’s not very good.

  1. “dead eyed and horrifying stoat person” describes my biomutant strength character amazingly well. He looks like he has teeth that evolved for opening beer cans

  2. “I want to like Biomutant…” Couldn’t have opened better.

  3. The staff fighting system gives me Starfox Adventures vibes.

  4. I think stuff like this game just rolls off my brain when I see it, it interests me so little. For one thing, I am so very, very done with Ubisoft style open world games that are just full of jobs to do. They are a fucking chore to play.

  5. Jim’s ability to turn knobs is immeasurable. They’re clearly the best in the world and this cannot be contested.

  6. I cant wait for games to get over the whole ‘Your choices matter’ thing. Its not impressive anymore and hasnt been since Bioshock Infinite had you choose a coin flip.

  7. I mean no weapon durability and the mount comes to you when you call for it regardless of where it is, so…

8/10 objectively better than Zelda: BotW?

    (Only joking, I hate scores)

  8. “dead eyed and horrifying stoat person” yeah i work with a guy like that

  9. I am so glad that I stopped pre-ordering games. I was really excited for this game when they first previewed it years ago, but the end result just doesn’t live up to that from the footage and reviews I’ve seen.

  10. Never too late to learn the piano!

  11. Okay, but putting giant monsters in pajamas is a huge positive in my book.

  12. There seems to be a trend with games these days, games we “want to like”

  13. What you said about the quality of the time you spend vs just the amount of time you spend in the game really resonated with me. As I’ve gotten older, I put less and less stock in how much content a game has. I’d rather have a high quality 15 hour game than a mediocre 50 hour game.

  14. The comic book style sound effects in screen could have almost be interesting if the game actually leaned into a comic book art style instead of just bland ‘this is a video game’ aesthetic

  15. When I heard about the game, I was looking forward to it, but watching actual gameplay of it, really disappointing. Aesthetic is definitely the pull-in, but everything else seems so lackluster.

  16. I will say I cannot for the life of me think of another game that’s had such a perfect 50/50 split between positive and negative reviews, and then a further split between those negative reviews themselves, with one half praising the combat system but deriding the crafting put into the world, and the other half praising the world they crafted for it but dunking on the combat.
Truly the Marmite of videogames, and that’s an impressive achievement.

  17. There’s nothing quite worse than seeing a game with so much potential just collapse under the weight of its own ambition.

  18. Jonathan Tillian

“Dorky looking but nonetheless dead eyed and horrifying stoat people”
So that’s what you’re calling AAA game executives now, eh?
