Injustice 2 – Introducing Joker!

Close Ad ×

Though killed by Superman, the Joker continues to haunt the lives of all those touched by his madness. By destroying Metropolis, he set the events in motion which made enemies of Superman and Batman. If he were alive to see the chaos he’d created, he would surely be smiling.

  1. This is what Jared Leto should have looked like

EDIT: to clarify, I think this is the look they were going for with Leto. I don’t like the concept, but the game pulls it off better.

  2. I’m not that big of a fan when it comes to superheroes so my view on this may not be very ‘important and might sound naive. I’m not even getting this game; I was only watching some random YouTube videos to pass the time. However, I’d like to give my opinion regardless.

    *ahem*

Isn’t The Joker more of an idea rather than a specific incarnation that has been used in the past? As long as he acts and looks in a way that seems fit isn’t it fine? Any physical appearance is good with me as long as it is believable for said character and doesn’t seem to contradict what they are supposed to stand for/represent. Besides, I thought that the main reason as to why The Joker has become so popular is that he is relatively simple and yet complex at the same time; he’s a unique character yes but he’s so ‘realistic’, for lack of a better word, compared to other villains that he becomes intriguing and intimidating. I don’t know the exact quote but isn’t he known for saying something about how other people are only ‘one bad day’ away from becoming like him or something to that effecr? Nothing in this design seems to betray that idea so what’s the big problem? Or do I only think that because I don’t know enough about the subject matter? Maybe that’s it.

I also want to make a general point about actors/voice actors. This goes for anything, not just superhero media by the way. I really feel that people need to stop worshipping certain actors/voice actors over others. I don’t mean you can’t think that one is better than another, I mean that the whole ‘if they aren’t played by __ it automatically sucks’ attitude is a problem. Those actors won’t be around forever so people need to demonstrate the ability to handle different interpretations of the same character. I feel that this is especially true for someone like The Joker who has been shown in variety of ways in the past already. And don’t even get me started on the people who have complained to me about how his voice isn’t scientifically accurate enough for his appearance. Maybe it’s not but it IS fiction for crying out loud! The entire genre is unrealistic and this game is no different. The physics engine for this game is ridiculous etc. Realism is irrelevant here or are you going to critique every voice actor who doesn’t do a voice that is ‘scientifically accurate’ enough for whatever role they are playing?

How can people keep lecturing me on how The Joker is a ‘timeless’ concept if they are then going to b*tch about redesigns that bear no real significance to the DC canon? Isn’t that ‘timeless’ concept built on more than just what he sounds like or whether he wants to wear a shirt or not? People confuse their preferred version of a character as the canon, untouchable design. There is no true ‘canon’ design, that’s not how it works. Besides, it’s not as if you can CHANGE every character’s appearance in this game…

This is why I normally stay clear from superhero media. The fanbase is NEVER satisfied; you can’t enjoy any of it without someone else trying to demonise you as a result. You can like/dislike whatever you want but only if you’re willing to give other interpretations a chance in the first place. But my lack of interest in the genre also means that you should probably ignore my view or at least take it with a grain of salt.

Edit: I did a little research and some dialogue between Batman and Joker hints that this is a ‘Scarecrow induced hallucination’. If this is true then an untidy, wild design seems more fitting and holds more meaning as it looks like The Joker has actually gone through some sh*t.
