You have to give credit where credit’s due, and in terms of commercial videogame success, Mediatonic’s Fall Guys deserves a nod.

It helps that I’m really enjoying the game, but I’m also genuinely quite fascinated at what a perfect storm of marketability Fall Guys is. There’s a reason this game has exploded the way it has. In fact, there are multiple reasons.

So let’s look at the genius that is Fall Guys as a product. By all accounts, they’ve got it made.

  1. Man, this game is everywhere I go on YouTube. The devs must be so happy… and a bit overwhelmed.

  2. I’m just glad the publisher Devolver Digital finally released a game with mass wide appeal. As long as this means we get more games from them.

  3. *Jim hates a game*
People; you’re so negative, you’re just a hater!
    “Jim likes a game*
    People: you’re just a shill!

I dunno why those people watch Jim if they’re gonna see the worst intentions :/

  4. “I’m deeply unpopular even among those who know who I am.”
Hope it’s not mean to say I like Jim the person generally more than Jim the character.

  5. So.. Where is the Jim Sterling costume for Fall Guys?
    Get on that.

  6. Look at this man straight up just flexin on all of us with his wins.

  7. Oh Takeshi’s Castle. That’s some memories.

  8. I used to play minecraft with the guy who runs the fall guys twitter lol

  9. The guy who runs the Fallguys Social Media account follows me on Twitter. I followed him because he was funny, glad to see him get a nice job for a good game

  10. Just hoping they don’t go with the “Devolver Launcher”, “Devolver Store”, “Devolver Exclusives”.

  11. this is the first game ive ever played that microtransactions doesnt even feel like it exists. currency is all earned, and crowns cannot be purchased, which are the ONLY way you can get some epic and almost all legendary skins. I really like it, nothing feels forced, and if i want something, im able to get it.

  12. “If you’re having a laugh with the game you’re playing it right” that’s some real good wisdom right there

  13. “Even Rob Liefeld could draw a Fall Guy, and he can’t even do feet.”
My gods, if they put in a gritty 90s muscleman costume with a bajillion pockets and an oversized mongo gun I would buy Fall Guys *yesterday*

  14. I remember someone made a tweet about how brands aren’t you’re friends in response to FreeFortnite, saying Epic aren’t your friend, Apple aren’t your friend, etc, and Devolver isn’t your friend.

The Fall Guys official account responded “We’re your friend”.

    Just…boak. Cynical af.

  15. Soon Jim’s suit will be covered in so many pins, you won’t even be able to tell there’s a suit under them.

  16. “DON’T BE SO NEGATIVE!”
    Jim: “Okay.”
“Ugh, you’re either too cowardly or incompetent to address the serious issues in the game industry.”
Jim: “Very well, Fall Guys has some cynical microtransactions and monetization.”
    “DON’T BE SO NEGATIVE!”

  17. “Sort of like an Ubisoft game. But not made by a company full of sex abusers” could be followed by either “yet” or “that we know of.”

  18. Honestly, I think we really needed this silly, fun, simple game. Everything has been over-designed, over-analyzed, over-drawn, hyper-expensive tosh for years and years now. During a time of growing economic danger and some of the most poisonous politics in a generation, it’s nice to have something that’s good with very few caveats.
