  3. I agree with everything else-But saying “Don’t finish the story of the Resistance against Combine Occupation because the former writer released a 5 paragraph, self described fanfic”. I know that at this point the story feels like it has closure, but it…doesn’t.

Can you imagine 50 years in the future, looking back on this franchise and its universe and saying “What’s the connective tissue between Half Life 2 and Half Life 3? Why did the story in Half Life 2 never end?” and getting the response “Well, because the writer made a blog post that had a very basic story outline for it and that was conclusive enough for everyone.”

  5. I know how they can avoid Half life 2.
    Bring back ADRIAN SHEPARD.
He could work so fucking well.

  6. Half life is dead, everyone’s been waiting so long for nothing. I am just waiting for Half Life 2 Beta to repeat itself. Valve hasn’t got the balls to pour money into it (which they clearly can) since the title gained legendary status 10 years ago. Meanwhile, crapware is selling on Steam regularly, not giving half a dick about the public. The moment Laidlaw left was the moment Valve lost it’s mind. I could almost feel the pain Laidlaw went through watching all that shit pop up on the market, and there he is, with the story EVERYONE’s waiting for. Not a single word to anyone, no one can know, but the power to make or break a franchise and many people’s dreams at his fingertips,… that takes patience. Valve must not forget that Half Life made them, I am just waiting to see if Half Life 3 will break them.

Marc Laidlaw, I salute you. You did a good job leaving, there’s plenty of your material to go around.

I know I am just a random person on the internet but hey, 10 years of waiting bottles up in you, know what I’m saying?

  7. Welcome to the graveyard, HL3 supporters, we Tf2 fans have been here for a while and we share your pain and we hope that both games get recognition for how amazing they are,and how both of them can be outstanding again, if valve starts to think again, not about the stone cold coins that litter their basement, but the actual meaning of being a game developing company.

  8. TF2 community: Shit we’re dying

    HL community: Nope we are

  9. Nah, I don’t believe it. Half Life 3 is never coming out. Half Life VR will just be some gimmicky bullshit.

  10. Starlight Drifter

All we need to do is stop playing Dota 2 and CS:GO and stream HL1 and HL2 and L4D1 and L4D2! We must hope they don’t make a card game.

  11. The Episodes were a mistake. After regular Half Life 2, the story would’ve been free to go anywhere, but with the following Episodes, they wrote themselves into a courner. I couldn’t imagine any possible conclusion to the story from that point that wouldn’t leave most fans dissatisfied.

  12. I’m sorry but Half-Life is dead. Valve is no longer the Valve of even 10 years ago. Valve sees success in Steam and their cash generator games such as CS:GO and DOTA (both games they didn’t even develop themselves). They have no desire to returning to making games of their own. They’re more content with sitting on the work of others and getting money out of it.

This coming from a long-disheartened Valve “fan.”

  13. Gman is Gabe Newell confirmed. Both are shady business men who seem good in the beginning but are secretly the bad guys all along.

  14. Even if Half Life 3 came out tomorrow, it wouldn’t be any good because literally everybody who worked on the original game is gone.

  15. Marc Laidlaw definitely released this little short story as a big “fuck you” to Valve for their “Artifact” announcement.
    All Hail the Lordlaw!

  16. This is beyond sad, people have legitimately passed away with the idea that they’ll be able to see the final chapter to this masterpiece. You know what’s the scariest part about waiting? Not knowing if you are waiting for “something”.

  17. Nahh! For me HL3 is dead and Valve is not a game company anymore. It is much better to feel from this point than to receive huge doses of disappointment.
Fuck Valve, no more disengagement from them for me.

  18. In this comment section:
Hopeful fans and angsty teenagers who hate companies.

    Beware of the path ahead.

  19. Where do Gordon Freeman and Jon Snow meet for drinks ?

    The Crowbar.

  20. Why don’t they bring back Adrian Sheppard if they’re done with Gordon, let him finish the job, I mean, he is still waiting assignment.
