Spyro Reignited Trilogy’s Physical Edition Requires You To Download Two Thirds Of It

Spyro Reignited Trilogy reminds us that, even with a relatively simple task, Activision Blizzard will still find some way to screw folks over. Even if it’s just a little thing, the prats at ActiBlizz find a way to annoy folks.

Anyway, this game has a physical edition, but two thirds of it aren’t physical. Ripto’s Rage and Year of the Dragon require downloading, even if you bought the disc.

  1. That’ll be fun once it’s no longer up for download in ten years or so

  2. They did the Crash trilogy right. How could they screw up the next one this badly? It makes no sense.

  3. I was wondering when Activision was going drop it’s pants and flash it’s dong at us.

  4. The N. Sane Trilogy didn’t have this trash
    Why does Spyro?

  5. How can Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 fit on to one disc while a bunch of ps1 games need a download?

  6. That is incredibly scummy.

  7. Activision: ” Wow, this Spyro Reignited edition seems everything that the fans want! It will make us look like we can do something good for once as Publisher…we cannot allow that, RELEASE THE BULLSHIT! “

  8. welp no buy for me

  9. I buy physical copies on the basis that I’d appreciate it quite a lot if the game is still playable 20 years from now without needing to somehow rip a million files of some kind of arbitrarily encrypted console storage system.
Foolish, I know. Who wants to play 20 year old games? ;p
Yet, the concept of patches, and especially day one patches rather renders that a moot point though doesn’t it?

However It really takes the piss that companies make statements like that.
It means physical media is basically digital downloads with extra steps.
And that’s fucking stupid on so many levels…

  10. Wow, just wow. It is a “no buy” now

  11. WHY are Activision calling it an “UPDATE”? An update is an optional improvement, if you buy a physical copy of the Spyro trilogy and don’t have internet you *literally don’t have 2/3 of the games you bought,* you’re not being given what you bloody paid money for!

  12. Why can’t each game have its own disc? How is this hard?

  13. Steam does it since 2011. I remember how i had to download 10% of Rage (2 gb out of 20). That seriously threw me off. Things haven’t changed since then and only gotten worse. Now you literally have a disc with a code and an online installer. jokes about pirated copys with just a torrent on a disc suddenly stopped being funny.

  14. Hmmm. Looks like we should get the Advertising Standards Authority on Activision’s arse. After all, false advertising is literally illegal here in the UK, and I don’t think they’d be happy with such a blatant lie backed up by teeny micropenis fine print.

  15. The problem about this is that ten years down the line, this might not be up for re-download. A physical copy would always work

  16. Dynasty Warriors 4 Music, A fine choice Jim

  17. My bet is that Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 weren’t ready for the disc stamping deadline so they had to do this or delay the game.
