Post Direct, Steam Is Shittier Than Ever (The Jimquisition)

We’ve had much of 2017 to see what Steam Direct has done for Steam.

Since Steam Direct turned out to be a complete farce, it’s safe to say it ain’t done a lot. You need not take my word for it either.

Also, Sterdust accepts a challenge from Pro Wrestling Ego.

  1. Jim, you switch themes a lot. I like both so it doessn’t bother, I was curious if the different themes mean anything for each video?

  2. Jim be careful and make sure your heart is healthy enough to be rolling around with a bunch of sweaty dudes in spandex costumes

  3. Honestly, I’m not seeing much of these shitty games. Might be because I a) don’t browse Steam that often and b) don’t buy / download these shitty games.

  4. Steam is not a browse for me, it’s a destination. I have to have interest on the game first to buy it and then it can come from Steam. Other then that, forget it.

  5. We don’t need a cleaner nomore… we need a purge. BRING THE FIRE OF PROMETHEUM.

  6. And while we’re at it, let’s get rid of the millions of anime visual novels and dating sims that clutter up every search and I have to sift through to find anything. It’s like trying to find a Milky Way in a cat’s litter box.

  7. Wow, Pro Wrestling Ego actually responded. This is probably the best publicity they’ve ever gotten.

  8. After no time of thought, it definitely wasn’t worth the wait.

  9. HOW DID THE FLY GET IN?!?!?!

  10. The market will regulate itself. if 99% of what exists is shit (which it is), people will seek out the 1%. I don’t understand why you get upset by the existence of crap. Go to Poundland, it’s full of crap. Doesn’t stop Waitrose existing.

This always happens when production is universalised. Once everyone got a word processor, 99% of everything published (on the internet) was crap. When portastudios arrived, 99% of everything recorded was crap. Give a man a pencil, and chances are what he will draw will be diabolically awful. So the Jimquisition’s solution, nay *demand*, is to confiscate the word processors, home studios and pencils- or, at least, to impose some sort of committee-based filter which denies the inept wielders of these tools access to the general public.

So we can go back to the Good Old Days where what you could experience as a consumer had to be agreed by an editor, A&R man, or art gallery owner.

If crap offends you, just don’t look at it. Or make a living laughing at it. There’s no need to start bansturbating.

  11. Is this some kind of dream? IS JIM STERLING JOINING PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING!? I’m so happy…

  12. Jim, don’t do the wrestling thing, your back will not thank you. You are going to end up on the mat with gallstones pouring out of your mouth wishing you had never heard the name Ster-Dust.

  13. …Are we sure Valve and Youtube aren’t run by the same people? It kinda sounds like they’re run by the same people. Thank god…FOR STERDUST.

  14. It’s pretty clear Steam wanted to be the Youtube of videogames. Let anyone on, use an algorithm to remove/flag stuff. 2 hour auto-allowed refunds does their job for them really. If you didn’t like that shitty game you bought, refund it. The days of Steam as an online store, an equivalent to physical stores is gone. Just as you have accepted there are naf videos on youtube (hundreds of thousands for every 1 decent video) so to must you accept that steam is the same and we now must rely on word of mouth/social-media, advertising, and oldschool reviewers, newschool youtube reviewers etc for finding good games.

  15. I think the issues with Valve and Youtube both stem from the same mindset. In their eyes, they’ve won. The internet is a competition, and they’ve both already won.

That’s why Youtube doesn’t change anything drastic anymore outside of making companies more comfy with putting ads on videos. That’s why Valve doesn’t focus on making games anymore. That’s why they both rely almost entirely on algorithms!

They think they’ve ‘won’, so they don’t need to do work anymore.

  16. Cala Maria Wants To Blow You!

Jim confirmed to like Nazis. (But only if they are muslim, no white nazis allowed!)

  17. Those “games” wouldn’t cut it on Newgrounds, and that’s 100% FREE

  18. Hey, well you can’t spell Steam Direct without “cat’s rim”

  19. It’s so tedious to sift through all the shit on Steam to find the GOOD new releases. It’s a shame to see quality titles never get to their full sales potentials.
