Oninaki – Dead Good (Jimpressions)

Close Ad ×

Oninaki is a depressingly written game with a creepy story, but the actual gameplay is quite compelling, even if it won’t be for everyone.

Talking to ghosts, picking up dead souls and using them as weapons, riding on the back of a wolf spirit, there’s a lot of fun to be had, even if the protagonist is having no fun whatsoever.

  1. Listening to Jim describe the story, reminded me of Folklore for the PS3.

  2. OMG Jim! You love Oninaki but everyone else doesn’t and you hated Remnant but everyone else loves it! This is 7/10 Zelda all over again!

    Heheheheheh 😉

  3. this looks like a fun jrpg, will definitely check it out

  4. Life mate is generally infatuated with death.

  5. I can’t help but think Jason Takes Manhattan whenever I hear that song.

  6. Glad to hear you liked Oninaki Jim

Personally I didn’t get it day one just because I lack money, gonna buy it at the first sale tough

  7. The only thing that really bugs me about this game is the price tag. If I’m paying $50, I might as well just buy a physical copy.

  8. The spears are great in this game ? at least for me.

  9. Jim, don’t think about death, just let the smooth, dulcet tones of Crumpet Grumbleshire lull you into a trance, where there is no death, and no blitz, only the smoke and sugar lounge

  10. Mooom, Jim liked the wrong mid tier release again!

  11. “The wireless” Has someone been re-watching The Sound of Music?

  12. “The story is depressing”
So basically it’s a TokyoRPGFactory story then

  13. Loving this JRPG Renaissance, it’s a much needed breath of fresh air to counter all of the Western AAA greed these days

  14. Thanks for the impressions, Jim. It’s been a long while since I played a JRPG that peeked my interest, and this game sounds like it checks off a lot of boxes for me. Cheers!

  15. When I played the demo guiding the kid round and he said that he missed his parents made me shed a tear and the fact that his parents wanted to die to be with him made me cry no joke.

  16. Tried out the demo on PC. Combat actually felt pretty good to me. It is slower than some action RPGs, but I guess it’s just a matter of personal taste.

  17. DiabloSamurai1985

Darkest side of the night from Friday the 13th Part 8, nice!!

  18. Equipping Demons with special abilities sounds a bit like mechanic from Shin Megami Tensei/Persona game.
