I know this is about Nier: Automata, I LOVE Nier Automata, holy shit, I NEED to platinum it.
That being said, I’ve been playing Horizon Zero Dawn. 37h in and that feeling of been there, done that never goes away.
The combat is average, the weapons are generic, very uninteresting and uninspired, like it’s Side-Quests.
The AI of the game is brain-dead(Both AI’s, the machine’s and the humans’s). I’ve made a clip of me killing 6 dudes while hidden in the same grass with the Whistle Skill, they never noticed the pile of corpses in front of the patch of grass, it’s even more ridiculous when you can whistle people way off in the distance while having people a few feet away from you pay you no mind. I was at one camp where I accidentally whistled a guy who was so far off that I couldn’t even see him while three guys near me completely ignored me.
I’ve cleared a whole camp just whistling to bait the guys to me and then Silent Killing them. Just horrendous.
This works with Machines as well.
The world is very big, but also very dead, shallow. Just like a generic open world game, really.
The world having a lot of icons on the map doesnt mean that the world is filled with stuff to do, it’s just random collectibles, after you get em there’s no reason to return there. The map has serious icon issues, why doesnt it have a filter?
Its gorgeous, yes, but graphics can only awe you for a while just like any Guerrilla Games game 😛
The stealth in this game only works because the NPC’s AI is useless, crouching lets you become almost invisible even when you’re walking right besides them they can’t see you, in front, yeah, it’s an insta-spotted, but walk beside them and you’re 100% unseen.
You Sneak Attack(It’s the most scandalous Sneak Attack I’ve seen in a while, it’s veeeeeery noisy), while in a stealth grass, an NPC(Machines or Humans) in front of another enemy and it doesn’t even flinch, they simply can’t see you, it’s very easy to maintain your Stealth.
Almost every Side-Quest I’ve done is “get me an item”, “kill X enemy”, “Find X person, A.K.A. press R3 and follow a purple hologram trail.
I’m doing the Hunting Side-Quests now. They are very trivial, managed to get Blazing Sun(Gold Medal, basically) first try in at least 3 trials.

I almost maxed out the crafting stuff(Those fishes!). Hunting Wild Animals is pretty much useless now. IMO there should have been more variety to the wildlife.
I’ve unlocked these weapons for now, I’m guessing there are more to be found.(I’ve heard there is a Ropecaster that is cool, so, ok, from ALL the weapons ONE is original. Not impressed at all.)
– You have a Bow. Ok.
– You have a Sling that throws “bombs”. Okay…?(A grenade launcher)
– You have a Tripwire. You make a line on the ground that triggers when walked over, amazing!(A fucking exploding wire)
– You have a Sharpshot Bow that’s basically a more powerful but slower Bow.(A Sniper)
– You have a Rattler, the machinegun of the game.(A machinegun)
They just feel so generic. Yeah, their design’s are good, but that’s it. Nothing new, nothing interesting.
HOW this game got 9.5/10 out of Jim Sterling, HOW this is sitting with 88 on Metacritic is baffling.
The only thing Horizon Zero Dawn does to me is making me want to play *Monster Hunter*

I’m CERTAIN that this title is going to generate accusations of ‘clickbait’ from certain sectors of the viewing populace. But I have to let them know, this is just how Jim Sterling talks, like 24/7. He’d be talking like that if he was alone in a room.

What can you do in the open world of Nier? Because I’m not seeing how the game benefits from it.
Calling Automata an open world game is kind of inaccurate, it _looks_ like an open world because the map is large but it really isn’t. Most of the areas are self-contained (city, forest, desert, etc) so that major story missions won’t make you run from one side of the map to the other, unless you just haven’t discovered the location yet. The story is linear (no taking over enemy outposts to advance the “plot”), and despite the map being large, it’s not so large that it takes you hours to get from one place to the next.
Besides, you run pretty damn fast, and if you’re in a hurry you can ride a moose (fuck boars) or fast travel once the option is unlocked.
I can’t wait for your reaction to late game mechanics, and most importantly – how the credits screen is more than credits screen! Once you dig deeper, you’ll see why people that finished Automata praise it beyond belief – it is a game of a DECADE!.

“The latest in the hit NieR series”. Are you crazy Jim? It’s practically a miracle that this game was made with how poor the reception on the first Nier was.
