Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Durable Fun (Jimpressions)

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to a sequel and a sequel to a spin-off. It’s also really bloody good, I reckon.

With a more complex Warriors formula than usual, a diverse range of characters that have their own play styles as well as movesets, and a whole ton of content, it’s mechanically superior to the first Hyrule Warriors, even if it doesn’t quite benefit from the original’s novelty factor.

Also, you get to keep all your weapons.

  1. Holy calamity, scream insanity

  2. That intro makes me appreciate Jim’s endless hatred of monetisation that little bit more.

  3. I was a Super Smash Bros themed Warriors game next.

  4. Wait, there’s no weapon degradation? Not for me then 🤣 /s

  5. Impa, mipha and link all I used mostly. I’d used the others every so often.

  6. The weapons don’t break.
    Jim: 10/10

  7. Hmmm doesn’t feel very faithful to the lore when your weapon doesn’t break after slashing an enemy 5 or 6 times.

  8. The fun might be durable, but that framerate sure ain’t.

  9. I didnt like BotW all that much and have enjoyed age of calamity a great deal more.

  10. I had a feeling you would enjoy Age of Calamity.

Having played the demo, it clicked alot with me, felt like an enjoyable Warriors title that is perfect on the Switch. That being said, I’m waiting till Christmas before I can enjoy it.

Now as a challenge, I dare ya to play the Fate/Extella games on the Switch.

  11. I’m still waiting for another Dynasty warriors GUNDAM

  12. I can agree I enjoyed the combat more, and felt more rewarding to do than BotW. Not necessarily because of the lack of weapon durability but because there’s more point to engage. Not only gaining weapons but all sorts of materials and rewards that impact the game.

  13. I love this game, and I love hearing Jim complain about BotW.

  14. Between this and Persons 5 Strikers, I’ll be occupied.

  15. 5:21 Yes, Jim, never forget DW9 and what they *DID* to Zhang He.

  16. Who held Jim at gun point to do this? We all know he’d never give a Nintendo game anything above 7/10 /s

  17. I’ve never cared for any Zelda game, but now I kinda want to fight hordes of monsters as Urbosa cause she looks badass and pretty. :U

  18. Breath of the Wild and Non-trolling honesty? He must really like this game.

  19. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity — it’s like “Breath of the Wild” without all the bulls**t.

  20. 13:21 Given you are still one of the only Western critics to truly give the Warriors/Musou franchise its time of the day and honest critique, you have every right to say that. On that note, can’t wait to hear your opinion of Persona 5 Scramble.
