The posture, the energy are definitely a factor…
Not only do most of the artist’s sketches have more pleasing energy than the end result, if we see the rendition of Neferkitty by Pizzaowl at 14:44, it would have much more potential to be smashed by Mark than the one Matt commissioned: In addition to a few tweaks, it is confident and passively powerful-looking (as opposed to RushLight Invader’s rendition, that is more aggressive but doesn’t strike me as much as Pizzaowl’s one and the original that looked like it was mad at the world for some reason)
When looking at the sketches, the sketch that the final design is based on looks much better in my opinion. (11:00 the one most below, most similar pose to the final)
The shape langauge and guesture is much stronger in that one. In the final design the perspective of the face feels a bit wrong and it gives the expression that the head is too big.
To me a lot of the shapes are clashing, all asking for attention.
While in the sketch the more fiercer legs take the attention (also really like the extra detail on the leg that got removed)
I could go on but this is just my opinion, the sketch has a stronger pose/feeling/design. I wonder what Markiplier would say if he saw both.
