Both games run under a different version of the Dunia engine (Ubisoft-modified CryEngine).
If you don’t know which game is which, Far Cry 5 always cuts before Far Cry 2, clips fade in when it’s just another example from the same game.

Cutting corners does not make good games
for me physics are integral to realistic graphics. i think some people are making a false dichotomy here and assume texture resolution and shaders are all that is needed to quantify if a game is realistic or not. half life 2 and crysis weren’t heralded as vanguards of computer game graphics for their textures and shaders alone, the physics engines were a big part of that.

These new massive open world games are always like this now. Huge beautiful landscapes that barely react to anything you do. That’s why I couldn’t finish Horizon after playing BOTW.
What a great video. Goes to show how lazy Ubi has become; instead of focusing on creating atmosphere with small details added to the world, the just stick to a formula in which they only replace assets. I preffer the Far Cry 2 approach to gameplay, with it’s mechanics that don’t allow the player to ride the power trip incessantly.
Ubisoft + shitty weak consoles
AAA in 2k18… compared to 2008 Game designers being held like cows to just suck the milk out of them and make money. In so many details like in Far cry 2 you can see love and efford not just in pretty graphics!
I love how the fire looks better and spreads more realistically in FC2 than it does in FC5.
They just slap a new coat of paint then strip fun mechanics and physics
it’s a shame because I think Far Cry 5 is a genuinely great game but these little touches really turn a great game into a fantastic game. Far Cry 2 was a passion project that didn’t do things to make it hugely popular instead putting in elements like managing your malaria and set save spots which were dropped in far cry 3 to make it more marketable.
In the end i think this is the difference between a piece of art and a pure product. Instead of a tact on multiplayer we could have had some more man hours thrown into making the game as real to life as possible.

Especially miss the buddy system from Far Cry 2, they could have extended upon it and refined it so much giving incredible depth to the game, this video doesn’t completely show it’s potential.
You could have a buddy “rescue ready” which meant if you died out in the field this buddy would come and rescue you, pretty much what is shown in the end of this video but reversed, and you would get another shot at completing the mission without having to reload.
