The first thing I thought when I saw the video: “YES! YES! IDIOT DEVS!”, then I just had to find the nearest bag of popcorn. He wasn’t too pleased when I made a thread on each submission linking all his “games” to the asset store equivalents. Also, for some of them he had the balls to actually steal the videos of the original uploader, crop them a bit and reupload them.
I think I found out why these “developers” take so much pride in their asset flips. I’ve been taking game development classes at a community college, and they are shit. One of the first classes involves us learning how to use the asset store. It is stressed how much time and money it can save us, and then students are told how good they did and patted on the head. The teacher who heads the game development division doesn’t know anything about games, has gone so far as to say to my face that he couldn’t care less about games. Each class is just us watching a YouTube tutorial. Most of these students are young and just at this program because they had to go to college, and when you are acing your class and being told you are doing everything right, it sticks with you. And most of these students have dreams of (and are encouraged by peers) to shoot for steam greenlight
