Control – Secure, Contain, Protect (Jimpressions)

Control is the latest game from Remedy Entertainment, the fine folks behind Alan Wake and Quantum Break. It’s… pretty good.

Yeah, it’s pretty good with a number of caveats. Terrific combat and a ground bed of fun ideas, marred by some poor writing and level design. Still, you get to throw a LOT of stuff around!

  1. You’re going to rank the “famous Remedy games” and leave out Max Payne? Shame.

  2. I dunno, i actually liked how the game made me actually explore to find stuff. Not just point me right to it with a waypoint.

  3. I like that Remedy still make aggressive shooters instead of cover-based.

  4. Control: a game about a tosser

  5. I wish Psi-ops and Second Sight got remastered. 2004 and 2005 was an amazing time for videogames

  6. I’m enjoying this way more than Alan Wake. Horses for courses I suppose.

  7. So, this is like a third of the things you want when you play as a jedi/sith?

  8. Pretty much every review mentions how good the in-world signage is and how terrible the map is, which makes me think they originally didn’t want to have a map at all but someone forced them to add it towards the end of development.

  9. “that gull had a family” LOL

  10. Haven’t played this game so I can’t say you’re wrong, but the last point about games that don’t have the characters who’ve grown up in the world give exposition endlessly at the beginning being bad… I kinda prefer it when the world feels more full and alive, as if it wasn’t put together ten mins before the game started and the person who’s spent twenty years with this as the normal doesn’t constantly ask ‘oh gee, what are the red things for?’ etc etc.

  11. Jim, you know, they also made Max Payne…

  12. If you put the powers from Quantum Break and Control together youll get fast paced Dead Space.

  13. Knights of the Geek Republic

No love for Max Payne? I may have to declare shenanigans!

  14. “The core of the game is tossing” – good, because I am a prodigious tosser.

  15. Max Payne… There, I’ve added to the hundred of comments reminding you of Max Payne.
