1. The arena is too large. The player has ample opportunity to simply kite the zombies (all of which are slower than the player), rendering them a non-threat.
2. The firearms are worthless. The combat knife kills everything in one hit, and even that might not be necessary as the base weapon kills the zombies in short order. Coupled with the fact that ammo must be purchased and the ease with which said ammunition can be wasted, the firearms are arguably a downgrade from the combat knife.
3. There is no reason to care about survivors. There are no penalties for killing them or letting them die, and the bonus money is useless as the shop has nothing of value to sell.

I loved Blood. I think it was probably the first FPS with dual shooters, and it was just so much fun hitting the cultists with a flare to watch them running around screaming as they burned to death.
