Assassin’s Creed Odyssey DLC Ignores Players Romance Choices To Force A Relationship

Despite promising “player choice” and pledging not to force relationships upon people, Ubisoft has ignored “player choice” and forced a relationship upon people with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s latest DLC.

In Shadow Heritage, no matter whether you play your Kassandra/Alexios straight, gay, or ace, you’ll be in a straight relationship with a baby by the end.

Oh, Ubisoft! You constant, shameless liars.

  1. Great, so my insignificant choices are even less significant now?

  2. The amount of people that are defending this in the comments is baffling.

  3. Ubisoft, EA, Activision and Bethesda are constantly fighting now to show who is the worst company out there… Lol.

  4. which romances? You can just flirt with characters and you get a black screen as a reward. I wouldn’t say this is “forcing players into a relationship”.
I cocked away everyone, because…why not?

  5. Am I the only one who thinks game romances in the style of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are creepy?

  6. OMG. The Fallout 3 ending pissed me off, not only did you not get to choose the intelligent super mutant to tank the rads of the reactor, but when the DLC came out that LET you do that, you STILL got the coward’s ending despite taking the best possible path that ensured that nobody died.

  7. Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t see the backlash coming. If the choice was important as they claimed it to be, they should have known some people would be upset over this. Queerbaiting isn’t cool. :/

  8. You know what? I actually get it. If it was the other way round and I had a straight character and then at the end he ran off with a bloke regardless of my options and countless game hours I’d be pretty annoyed

  9. This actually reminds me of a scene from the new Flintstones comics. Marriage becomes a thing in their prehistoric world, and gays aren’t allowed to get married because they can’t reproduce.

But Fred shuts the priest down, saying that gay couples might not be able to have kids of their own, but they can take care of others in their community.

So the gritty Flintstones reboot managed to be more adult and mature than Assassin’s Creed.

  11. Its not only about turning your character straight though, it forces you into a relationship with a specific character, even if you already had a straight relationship with another character.

  12. Not even difficult, have an alternative ending where you find your sibling had a child and adopt it. Boom. Done.
    Don’t need anything else.

  13. A better option. Gay characters get a cutscene where they and their partner decide to have a baby, and they find someone who is willing to provide their biology into helping your couple have a baby. It’s weird, but gay couples do that all the time if they don’t wanna adopt.

  14. I feel this is a good indicator (as well as other happenings in the AAA industry lately) that Ubisoft and other Publishers don’t care about representation. They tout it to get easy press and to look good but when the chips are down they couldn’t care less. They saw this as an opportunity to parade all this incivility around and immediately threw it off like a tacky dress. I feel this DLC was just laziness rather than them legit trying to invalidate other identities but they can’t do that shit when so much of this game was built up around being able to choose who you wanna be and so should have included multiple outcomes. They did this to themselves.

I usually don’t care about this identity in video games stuff, I can project onto many things it’s all down to the writing but I can clearly see why this is an issue when Ubisoft themselves are at fault by not following through on their end.

Like I said AAA publishers couldn’t care less about identity and will toss anything aside once it’s no longer useful to them. Keep that in mind next time you see them trying to raise good will for their next big release.

  15. HAHAHA oh wait your serious let me laugh harder

  16. Is it bad that I wasn’t offended by this? Just seemed like mistake by the story writer if anything.
