Activision Shoveling Microtransactions Into Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

To the surprise of only those who haven’t kept an eye on Activision’s modus operandi, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is getting microtransactions.

Yes, a remake of a 20-year-old game will soon allow for the “option” of purchasing Wumpa Coins with real money to skip grinding for them. With a storefront that resembled Fortnite’s, the groundwork was clearly in place.

Yet again, Activision has smuggled microtransactions in long after game reviews were published, weeks after launch, and it stinks. Microtransactions don’t belong in there to begin with, but these post-launch additions are really getting despicable.

  1. Wait wait wait… You can buy Nazi gold in Wolfenstein Youngblood? Now that sounds like a PR nightmare waiting to happen XD

  2. Micro-transactions in retro re-releases.

Todd Howard frequently has sleepless nights over his lack of foresight in 2011 to monetise the gambling present in Fallout New Vegas.

  3. “Don’t pre-order” has been changed to “wait a few weeks”. I imagine that’ll soon change to “don’t buy at all”.

One of my favourite childhood franchises of all time ruined by Activision. How dare you Bobby Kotick ruin a great classic game. #Firebobbykotick

  5. this decade is best described in two sentences:

“Piracy is a service problem” and “It’s a paid solution for a problem you created”

  6. Yay! Another best game of the year, destroyed by Microtransactions. Mk11 will not celebrate alone

  7. “Its OPTIONAL..” “IT’s PLAYER CHOICE”… ok then Activision i choose not to buy your games.

  8. Jean-Philippe Martel

“It’s optional” works so damn well even players are using it religiously nowadays.

  9. During the next Grand Prix, they’ll stealth nerf the coins.
Calling it now. This is how it always goes.
1)Release game without Micro Transactions so reviewers give it a pass.
2)After the first season is over, add Micro Transactions.
3)After the second season is over, nerf the earnable free currency.

Time and time and time again.

  10. I wanted to buy this game for my switch, but held back for a price drop and cause I was worried about it getting this nonsense happen to it in an update, this made the game from “maybe buy” to “avoid wholly”

  11. To the person that said Jim was being unfair…… We know you are here……. How does it feel to be an absolute Bobby Kottick?

  12. The best part is, that these items ARE NOT EVEN JUST COSMETIC!
For the Grand Prix, some characters, skins, karts, paintjobs and decals give Bonus Percentage to the Nitro points you earn for completing daily missions and online races.
So if you buy all these bonus items you get an advantage for the Online Leaderboards!
    FUCK ACTIVISION

AAA gaming is so trash that I can’t even bring myself to enjoy them anymore. I try sometimes but as I see right through the BS I feel unconfortable playing most of the current AAA games. Especially third party. It’s kinda sad really

  14. Glad I still have the original games that these companies are remaking and exploiting so my kids can actually enjoy the game w/o having to pay for things.

  15. This microtransaction infestation is whats making me lethargic to modern gaming, now this plague is in almost all games from most developers.

  16. I feel like you should emphasise that all this is happening to a game marketed towards children. CHILDREN.

Even Modern Warfare Remastered didn’t stoop that low.

  17. Honestly horrifies me that I could buy a game for my son, fully research the game so that he is at no risk of predatory money making tactics, and they are actively looking to circumvent this and add them in. Basically making us have to check on every update for every game they have. This is gambling, this is predatory, and especially in this instance is aimed at a game for 3 and up.

  18. I’m so glad every time someone tells Jim hes always just getting his panties in a bunch, he always (anonymously of course) calls them out for it. People defending corporations in my experience always either are defending zealots, or people who can’t handle “negative critique” and lack the knowledge of the how bad industry really is.
